Delicious Impact 2022

Another exciting year has come to an end and we are taking the opportunity to look back once again. Data is the most important asset for our Artificial Intelligence to make accurate forecasts and help our customers reduce food waste.

Over the past year 2022, we have again collected a lot of data, correlated it with external factors, made forecasts and evaluated key figures. In this way, together with our partners, we were once again able to contribute to greater sustainability in the food sector.

Less food waste through artificial intelligence

By using our system with the features, sales forecasts, food waste monitoring or the daily planner, together with the connected sites, we have saved 625,680 meals by the end of 2022. That's 80% more than the previous year. We are proud of this and thank everyone involved in this success.

Converted, these savings correspond to 315 tons less food waste. Avoiding food waste is also directly linked to an improvement in the climate footprint, because if less food is produced in vain or thrown away unused, fewer resources are consumed and fewer greenhouse gases are emitted.

On average, the production of one kilo of food already causes around 2.5 kg of CO₂ emissions and consumes around 3,700 liters of virtual water. Since 2017, Delicious Data's mission has been to address these levers and reduce this resource consumption. Our contribution in this area for 2022 amounts to an imputed 11.7 million hectoliters of water and 787 tons of CO2e, which were not incurred in the first place by avoiding food waste as mentioned above.

Solutions for optimizing the carbon footprint

How does this work exactly? The heart of our solution is the deep-learning algorithm: it combines historical sales data from our customers' merchandise management systems with external factors, such as weather and calendar data, to create precise sales forecasts. This results in an optimal demand calculation for the user. In this way, food waste can be prevented before it occurs and overproduction can be prevented.

In addition, customers have another feature at their disposal in the form of food waste monitoring, which documents the wet waste generated and enables analyses to reduce this volume through further measures.

In order to be able to optimize and precisely control production even during the course of the day, we provide our customers in bakeries and snack bars with the daily planner. Production tasks, item quantities and the exact time of production are thus specified and prevent rigid baking schedules from leading to unwanted returns.
